Main Street Midwifery

I can’t believe how quickly time passes! It’s already been a week since I went down to deliver new images to the Main Street Midwifery Group. I had planned to photograph the new displays that day, but mother nature had other ideas…it’s a little hard to photograph windows in the pouring rain Eric went down a couple of days later to get these images for me to share. I have to admit, I’m very proud of the new images and will be putting a few new ones up every 6 months or so.

With the new images up, I put together a special for clients of the midwife clinic and will share it with all of you. If you reserve a maternity or newborn or family session before October 15th, 2010, you will receive a free iPhone or Facebook movie! If you reserve both a maternity and newborn session, you will receive the movie with images from both session, along with a set of 25 greeting cards. Sweet Charlie Anne

There are times in our lives that we have to be brave and selfless, but could you imagine facing that everyday?

I’ve been following this blog for a while, and I always have mixed feelings when I read it. I am in awe of what Cherie and Matt have to live with on a daily basis, and am very impressed by the way they handle it. I also feel great sadness, as it does not seem fair. I often read Cherie’s posts with tears in my eyes. I wonder what I can do to help and the truth is, not much. My own daughter is only a couple of weeks older than Charlie, and I’m so grateful for her health. Reading Cherie’s blog keeps life in perspective, it makes a lot of the daily things that we face as parents seem quite trivial.

For a number of years, I volunteered for Camp Goodtimes. It is a camp for kids with cancer and I always found great strength in the wonderful spirit of these children. I had several occasions to visit a few of the kids at Canuck Place and know what a wonderful place it is. Which is why I’m asking that you take a moment to read Cherie blog, follow the link to her adventure challenge page and do a little to support Canuck Place, and all that they do for amazing families.

Thank you for your generosity. And Cherie, if you happen to find this and read my post, thank you for your amazing courage. Your daughter’s beauty and spirit shines from each of your posts, thank you for allowing us to “know” your family.

Well, it’s been a very long time coming. I’ve been needing/wanting my website to be redone for about 2 years, but life always seemed to get in the way. With so many things on my plate, I was okay to let some things slide and I did love my old website, so it was one of the easy things to let go of. I think that’s part of the reason that I’m so very excited with the new design It feels so good to be able to check something off my long to do list and be able to say “I’M DONE!!!” I hope you’ll take the time to go and check it out: www.kalemphoto.com

Obsession?? What do you think?

In the last few days, Eric has been putting together a new website for me (to be uploaded soon). In going through past sessions, he commented on how many photographs I have made of feet. Is this an obsession? I’m not sure I really want to admit this, but it may just be true. I love to photograph teeny, tiny baby feet. There’s something about the cute little toes and the smooth skin that just begs to be captured. Here are just a few of the many feet that I have photographed.

I had a couple of ideas that I wanted to try for the new window display at the Main Street Midwifery Clinic and Mina was a very willing model. Ella’s First Year

Our daughter, Ella, turned one on June 6th. One part of me was amazed at how quickly the time passed and the other part of me was sad to see the end of “babyhood”. When Ella was first born, we decided that we would photograph her once a month for her first year. I’ve just finished putting together a Soho Album from Renaissance, our new album supplier, and I’m so excited with it! I can hardly wait for it to arrive in a few weeks! Here’s a quick sneak peek at what I’ve done.

A few years ago, Eric and I decided that we would only photograph 2 weddings a year. This may seem odd, but we made the decision as a way to simplify our life and to ensure that the weddings that we photograph are as unique as the people that we are working for. Here are a few of the image that we made at Tony and Irma’s wedding in May.

Catching up

Wow, it’s been almost three years since my last post and it feels like yesterday! I think a quick catch up is in order.

At the end of 2007, Eric and I bought our first home, a condo in Richmond. We then proceeded to completely renovate it. It took four long months but it was worth all the hard work. It’s so nice to come home to something that you’ve worked so hard on, to put your feet up and enjoy a quiet night by the fireplace!

In January of 2008, I decided to test for my 2nd degree black belt, a challenge that would prove to test not only my stamina but my perseverance. I spent a lot of time training and studying for my test and with the renos that we had happening at the same time, I had little time for anything else! All my hard work paid off and I earned my belt on August 2nd, 2008.

Shortly after I completed my test, we found out that we were expecting our first baby. Ella was born on June 6th, 2009 and I’ve been enjoying every minute of being a mom (well, minus poopy diapers and sleepless nights!) It’s hard to believe that she’ll be a year old soon! This photo is one of my favourites, Ella was just two days old and so cuddly!

All of these distractions have meant that I’ve not been great about updating my blog or my website…but hopefully that will all be changing soon! We are currently working on a new website, which I hope to have up sometime this summer and now that Ella is usually asleep by 8, I’m hoping that updating my blog will be a little easier, as my evenings should be a little more free!

Hopefully it won’t be another three years before you see another post from me!
